A biker injured in a crash with a car got up and fled in the motorist's vehicle.
The stunned 68-year-old driver was left stranded on the side of the road.
The accident happened at 7.20pm yesterday on the westbound lane of the A27 at Falmer, Brighton.
The rider was knocked off his Suzuki bike and suffered cuts to an arm and bruising.
The driver, in a Mitsubishi Projero, checked the rider and the two then went to inspect her car.
A Sussex Police spokesman said: "He then got into the car, shut the doors and drove off.
"The vehicle was found abandoned a short distance away.
"The rider must have needed medical attention and we would appeal to him or anyone with information to come forward."
