Birdman Adrian Martin is putting the finishing touches to his wacky flying machine, Operation Daft Star.
Adrian, 48, from Durrington, will be one of 27 people taking the plunge from Bognor pier on September 3 in the town's annual birdmen rally.
He is hoping this wood, cardboard and polythene contraption could propel him to win the prize for travelling the greatest distance from the pier.
Adrian has spent weeks working on Operation Daft Star, which has a 24ft wing span.
He is being sponsored to raise money for the Worthing day centre of national mental health charity, Mind.
Adrian said: "It started as a joke.
Somebody challenged me after last year's rally to take part and I was determined to go through with it.
"I have done a lot of gliding in the past, so I have no reservations about jumping off Bognor pier!"
