Readers may have received a questionnaire from Brighton and Hove Council requesting opinions on the future of Benfield Valley. The committee of the Benfield Wildlife and Conservation Group would like to see a type of urban country park as a stepping off point to the proposed South Downs National Park. The Benfield barn could be a centre for nature, arts and crafts, exhibitions, meetings etc.
The green areas of Benfield should remain green and carefully managed. There could be nature trails and events such as dog training, horse dressage, sheepdog trials and many more. The whole area could be managed by a trust, comprising enthusiastic residents in co-operation with the council.
I think it fair to say we all care about the future of our green valley. If you share our vision please let the council know. If you would like a copy of the questionnaire please telephone 01273 414936 or 01273 415506.
-Carole Robinson, Chairman, Benfield Wildlife and Conservation Group
