Ian Culverhouse has quit as Albion's reserve boss to become youth team coach at Third Division rivals Barnet.
Manager Micky Adams confirmed Culverhouse's departure after yesterday's defeat by Kidderminster.
Adams said: "Barnet is 20 miles away from where he lives and he felt he would be better suited working with kids rather than senior professionals.
"We wish him well. There is nothing sinister in it. Sometimes it's about your quality of life."
Culverhouse captained Albion after Brian Horton signed him as a player at the start of the 1998-99 season.
The former Swindon and Norwich sweeper was appointed reserve team coach by Horton's successor Jeff Wood, who turned down the Barnet youth post.
Albion will be appointing a successor to Culverhouse. "That process is under way at the moment," Adams said.
The Reserves play their opening away fixture in the Avon Insurance Combination at Swindon tomorrow (2pm).
