When it comes to booing Albion sides I've probably qualified for Olympic status.
It goes back as far as a naive teenager barracking a supposed 'boring' Mike Bailey team to the good old days of Barry Lloyd's Goldstone 'follies'!
I understand why the fans do it. They pay their money so they're entitled to their opinion.
On Monday it was almost 'vintage' Albion, not a bad first half, a number of chances against a side who arrived at Withdean hell-bent on a draw.
Bobby Zamora had the one that bounced down off the crossbar a la Geoff Hurst; alas Monday's linesman was from Kent rather than Kiev. Second half and two defensive nightmares, Kidderminster couldn't believe their luck, shut up shop and walked away with three points. At the final whistle one could have been mistaken for thinking David Bellotti had entered the ground.
But what the Withdean faithful don't see is what a defeat like that does to the manager. Up against other individuals I'm a mere babe, only watching the club since 1973 but in that time I've seen enough skulduggery at the club to know that Micky Adams is 110 per cent Albion.
It's his squad and he rightly points out there can be no excuses.
To mention the word 'crisis' or even 'dismal' is so premature it's ridiculous. For Dick Knight to sack the manager at any point would be up there with Mike Bamber dismissing Mike Bailey or Bill Archer 'selling' The Goldstone in classic Albion clangers. But then again, was the Archer sale a clanger or business deal of the decade?
Much has been made of the tremendous expectation around the Albion this season. It may appear to hang round the team's neck more like an albatross than a seagull.
But the fact is this is a make or break season for the club, promotion is almost a pre-requisite. A run of the mill Albion side treading water in the middle of Division Three would be manna from heaven for the anti-Falmer brigade.
You can almost hear them now at the public inquiry, resplendent in their Barbours and green wellies, arguing a mediocre Albion side annually treading water in Division Three could play at Withdean for the next 50 years.
Whether or not the anti-stadium brigade get their shot in the arm remains to be seen. If Micky Adams has got anything to do with it they will all be grumbling into their pints of real ale and glasses of sherry rather than celebrating.
That pleasure will be reserved for the long-suffering fans of the Albion, even the ones who booed on Monday!
Former Albion boss Alan Mullery is apparently experiencing a few financial difficulties, so much so that he is having to auction off all his caps and medals from his illustrious career. All very sad but unfortunately a fact of life.
I was somewhat surprised when an Albion fan approached me at the Withdean and suggested I should campaign to get the club to give Mullers a testimonial for his service to the Albion.
I agree, Alan was a huge part of the Albion's history but as regards benefit matches were does the club begin? Long serving physio Malcolm Stuart, kit man Jock Riddell, Ian Chapman and a number of others should be considered before Mullery.
