In reply to a recent query, the route 13 bus from West Blatchington to Brighton Station via the seafront was withdrawn early in 1940, due to restrictions imposed by the Ministry of Defence which prohibited access to Hove lawns and the West and Palace Piers due to the possibility of invasion.
This service was replaced by the route 19 service. This continued until the 1970s when it was replaced by a re-routing of the 5b from Hollingbury to Hangleton.
