One is now used to Brighton and Hove Council leader Lynette Gwyn-Jones' tortured way with words and logic, but her claim that Hove Centre is part of a campaign to attract more stars to Hove (Argus, August 28) beggars belief.
Will this really woo celebrities to these parts?
Stars would certainly have been attracted had her council not rejected plans to restore the Essoldo Theatre on North Street. In any case to attract stars to Hove contradicts her claim Brighton will not swamp its more sedate neighbour.
Stars aside, the truth is Hove actually has less of a say in its own affairs than ever before.
One has only to look at the way Ms Gwyn-Jones' council has attempted to push through the demolition of the King Alfred sports centre and the imposition of a Tesco supermarket on the gasworks site.
Her councillor, Simon Battle, announced if residents do not like such plans, they can move.
Does the starstruck Ms Gwyn-Jones realise the continuing anger this causes?
