The deaths of two men remain shrouded in mystery after post-mortems proved inconclusive.
Further forensic tests were being carried out today in a bid to find out how the men died at a detached house in Arundel Road, Peacehaven, on Friday. It is believed the bodies lay undiscovered for several weeks, making formal identification difficult.
However, police are almost certain the men were the occupants of the house, John Murdoch and Kieran Nagle.
Detectives are investigating the possibility that the men, one thought to be in his fifties and the other in his early seventies, died in a double suicide pact.
One of them was unwell and another possibility is that he died and his friend killed himself in grief.
Detective Inspector Ron Preddy said: "We are fairly satisfied the two men were indeed the sole occupants of the house but it would be wrong for me to speculate as to the cause of death at this stage.
"However, there are no signs of foul play.
"I am satisfied that further inquiries and forensic tests will help us piece together a clearer indication of what took place."
The men were found after a concerned relative raised the alarm.
Their two pet Labradors were alive.
