A recent survey shows speed is a contributory factor in a small percentage of accidents and the overriding factor in an even smaller percentage of cases. So why the recent Sussex police purge on speeding motorcyclists? Would the relevant authorities be prepared to justify this purge with statistics? It would be interesting to see what exactly is the cause of most accidents and where the blame should really be placed.

This is a continuation of the Government's policy of making speeding as unacceptable as drink-driving and an excuse to raise further revenue from the motorist. I would like to point out £17 of every fixed penalty ticket goes to the Treasury!

It has also occurred to me Sussex police might be hoping to join the eight constabularies who are now allowed to retain the £17 profit to fund more speed entrapment devices, a money making scheme if ever there was one.
