Watching The Battle of Britain on television recently brought back many memories of my childhood in Brighton during the Second World War.

It was really bad in Brighton at times, especially around the station area and Albion Hill. We never had a full night's sleep and sometimes wondered whether we would even be alive the next day. Food was very short and there were no luxuries.

However we did not go around committing crimes, taking drugs or getting violent after drinking too much. We didn't mug old ladies or break into our neighbours' houses, although we had nothing compared to today's generation. What has gone wrong?
