What was Telscombe Town Council expecting after announcing its 2001 calendar competition (Argus, August 24)? Photographs of the Civic Centre by moonlight, the sewage works at dawn, the recent unwelcome visitors on the Tye or a group of arguing people purporting to be local councillors representing residents' views?
The only items of beauty in Telscombe Town are the cliffs, beach and the Tye. The biggest joke of all is the desperate sign on the A259 declaring "East Saltdean - part of Telscombe Town". I feel Telscombe should be called West Peacehaven, as referred to by one of your local correspondents.
It is time the council realised people have lost faith in them and they should shut up shop now!
-Robert Spencer, East Saltdean
