Evicting the elderly residents of Nyewood House, Bognor Regis, is bad enough, but the way West Sussex Social Services seem prepared to hoodwink the public on monetary costs in order to justify this inhuman acts is quite another.
You do not have to be a financial expert to recognise a contrivance when you see one.
Two years ago, West Sussex Social Services issued a document stating it would cost £1 million to bring Nyewood House up to the necessary standard. Further research, however, revealed the home met all current standards and the document was therefore nonsense.
Cost estimates have been proved worthless on several occasions. If it cannot be trusted to provide us with accurate figures in this regard, what else can we trust it with?
Finally, if anyone is taken in by the county council's bleating about how short it is for cash, just take a visit to County Hall in Chichester to see first hand the extravagance of the refurbishment work going on there.
