Bognor boss Jack Pearce last night dismissed reports that he had placed key defender Jay Pickering on the transfer list.

But he has told the under-contract stopper to start producing his best form or face the axe.

Rocks have been leaking goals in alarming fashion so far this season and Pearce wants his influential former Albion youngster to help sort things out.

He said: "Jay has not been listed but we have told him he has not been performing anywhere near his potential.

"He has just signed a two-year contract and he has got to start performing."

Pickering cut short his summer holiday to go on trial with Bristol Rovers and his Nyewood Lane boss believes he has been unsettled by talk of linking up with a League club.

Pearce added: "We have a great affection for Jay and we do not want to lose him."

Rocks bit to climb out of the Ryman division one drop zone at home to Northwood while fourth-placed Worthing look for a fourth win in five outings as they host Uxbridge.

Damian Webber and Stuart Tuck are unavailable but Mark Burt and Paul O'Sullivan return.

Rebels have ruled out making a move for Pickering but were pleased with Peter Brackley's display in midweek after his move from Bognor.

Pagham manager Richie Reynolds is sweating on Ashley Edwards (groin strain) and John Oliver (back) before the Vase showdown at Horsham, writes Howard Griggs.

Reynolds said: "I will be very disappointed if we don't come away from Horsham with a favourable result. It will be the toughest game of the season without a doubt which is a shame for us and we would like a good run in this competition."

Martin Lempriere serves a one match ban for Hornets and may be replaced by Roger Barnes.

Lewes have re-signed midfielder Cameron Johnson from Withdean and have also made an approach for their former striker Andy Johnson, no relation, who is currently with Saltdean. Tommy Pattenden could return from injury for tomorrow's tough home match with leaders Arlesey in Ryman League division three.
