Richard Carpenter reckons the time is right for Albion to dent his old club's unbeaten League record.
Carpenter returns to Cardiff tomorrow following his summer switch to the Seagulls.
The midfielder is convinced Micky Adams' men can capitalise on the wind of change blowing through Ninian Park.
"I've spoken to a couple of the Cardiff lads who I have kept in contact with," said Carpenter. "There have been big changes there with Sam Hamman going in and Bobby Gould getting the manager's job.
"I think this is perhaps a good time for us to go there and play them. They have drawn a few and we have just started to get our game together a bit."
Kent-born Carpenter, promoted and relegated with Cardiff during two years with the Welshmen, is prepared for an unfriendly welcome.
"It's one of those things, the Welsh versus the English," he added. "If I don't get a good reception that's understandable, but we will knuckle down and hopefully get the three points."
Carpenter and ex-Cardiff comrade Charlie Oatway may not have captain Paul Rogers with them in the midfield battleground.
Paul Brooker made a positive impact as Rogers' second half replacement at Millwall on Tuesday, setting up the equaliser for Nathan Jones.
Adams is poised to recall the tricky winger to the starting line-up on the right in a return to a 4-4-2 formation.
Albion's spirited display at the New Den and last Saturday's trouncing of Torquay have put them in the mood to pick up their first away points of the season.
"Cardiff are one of the promotion favourites and rightly so," Adams said. "They have the resources to improve their squad as the season goes on and a passionate crowd behind them, but we are going there with a bit of confidence."
