I have to agree with Steve O'Rourke, chief inspector, Sussex Police, whose letter put the police force's position as regards anarchic travellers (Opinion, September 8).
The present farcical situation, which so upsets taxpayers, is due to the policy adopted by the Labour council. When, despite massive opposition, the last leader Lord Bassam spread the welcome mat out for travellers, eventually giving them a field and £200,000 of our money, the writing was on the wall - Brighton welcomes all!
Horsdean was created, but with 23 official spaces, it was clearly going to be nowhere near enough and arriving travellers then have to move on. Labour has created a monster and now it's devouring them.
