A mother was today being questioned by police over the death of her 13-year-old son.
Officers called to Mayfield Close in Findon just after 10am yesterday found the body in a semi-detached house.
A woman, believed to be in her late thirties, was taken to hospital by ambulance shortly afterwards.
Neighbours in the quiet road said they saw a woman in a dressing gown being helped to walk from the house into an ambulance.
The house was immediately sealed off.
Forensics experts spent the rest of the day carrying out a fingertip search of the house and detectives carried out house-to-house inquiries.
Detectives are treating the death as suspicious and were last night trying to trace family members.
The identity of the boy was expected to be released later today. A post-mortem examination was also due to be held today.
Neighbours said a man, woman and boy from the London area moved into the house more than a year ago.
Neighbour Maisie Treacher said: "I don't know the people who lived there very well as there have been lots of tenants staying there over the years.
"I saw them in the street but that was about all."
Her husband, George, said: "Someone told me there was a woman in a dressing gown being taken out of the house and put in an ambulance early this morning, but that is all I know."
Another neighbour, who did not want to be named, said the boy tended to keep to himself and not play outside with other children.
She said: "This is a very quiet street and we don't socialise a lot. There are some people along here who I have never spoken to.
"The people at that house were very quiet and did not really talk very much to other people although they always seemed nice, quiet and polite."
