How pleased and refreshed I was to read the sensible letters regarding the good which has come from a shortage of fuel. While nobody would want people to suffer because of the blockade's effect on essential services, I welcomed the drop in traffic and additional customers on my regular bus.
I, too, used to drive from Durrington to Brighton every day, but found out from a colleague that my £30 per week petrol costs could be more than halved with a £13 per week coach ticket.
This gives me unlimited travel on Stagecoach for seven days from Brighton to Southsea and as far north as Horsham. As for the trip to work, I catch the bus from a stop two minutes' walk from my house and get
off in Churchill Square, saving me a half-hour walk.
For anyone who thinks I no longer own a car, they are wrong. I do, but we only use it to run the whole family around at weekends.
