A Brighton man has clinched a lucrative deal with mobile phone giant One2One after creating some of the first games for new wireless application protocol (WAP) telephones.
One2One WAP phone users will be able to access ten games and applications created by Alex May and his business partner, Sam Lawrence.
Familiar games such as Battleship, Klondike, Othello and Pontoon will be available alongside Monster, the first 3D WAP program.
One2One subscribers will also be able to consult I-Ching, a pocket prophet who will offer guidance and prophecies.
A National Lottery number generator, famous birthdays, strange facts and famous quotations services have also been provided by Mr May's firm, Wapscallion IT.
The value of the deal was not revealed.
Mr May only started creating WAP games in April but they have attracted huge interest.
He said: "We're just a couple of guys working out of our bedrooms and we're working with big telecoms firms around the world."
One2One has bought a licence to deliver the games on its service. Games have been supplied to Canadian telecoms firm Clearnet. A number of firms from the Far East have also approached Mr May.
Five new games were made available to all WAP phone owners through the Wapscallion website yesterday.
This has attracted 6,000 registered users since it was launched six months ago. Players collect points playing the games which can be exchanged for free products.
Mr May admitted the tiny screens on WAP phones were limiting. He said: "They seemed like old ZX Spectrum computers.
"They were not as technically advanced as people would like them to be.
"We're looking to produce the best games we can with the technology."
Playing games on mobile telephones has proved hugely popular in Japan where i-mode phones, which are similar to WAP devices, are common.
Mr May said his programming expertise was invaluable.
He said: "This is a very young industry and we know a lot of stuff people are trying to catch up on.
"This is one of those opportunities I might never see again in my life time."
