The owner of Benfield Valley has changed his mind about having a pub and restaurant in a converted barn on the site.

Instead, Steve Callow is proposing a countryside centre, which is exactly what local people have been saying they want.

Wise words from local councillor Peter Willows persuaded him to give up the idea of a venture which would have been hard to get past the planners.

It's hard to object to what Mr Callow is now proposing, including the renovation of four cottages nearby and offering five acres to Hove Park Lower School for playing fields.

If the new plans are accepted, Benfield Valley, a vital green break between Hove and Portslade, will have been enhanced.
