Many of the most successful businesses in Brighton and Hove are small with just a handful of employees.
They make an enormous contribution to the local economy. Some, like the Body Shop which started modestly in the North Laine, eventually become national concerns.
But many promising businesses fail and others flee the towns through lack of finance, expertise and help.
That is why it is excellent news that Brighton and Hove is to become an Enterprise Hub with £9 million to help provide space for new and expanding firms.
They will also get training from experts, including those at Sussex University, and the very latest in new technology.
Brighton and Hove have always been fizzing with ideas. But they usually need careful steering to become commercial realities.
