An attempt to con money from an 84-year-old man was foiled by alert bank staff.
Two men, believed to be in their fifties, persuaded the pensioner to join them in their car in the Broadway area of Hampden Park, Eastbourne.
They had told him he owed them money for building work.
The men then drove him to a town centre bank in the hope of extracting cash from him but staff became suspicious and called police.
One of the crooks was dressed in a scruffy black suit and the other wore a cream shirt.
Anyone with information should call Eastbourne police on 0845 6070999.
