The section opposite the Brighton Centre and Grand Hotel was closed occasionally during the conference whenever the area was packed with demonstrators, or demonstrations were expected.
This seemed a sensible precaution. Cyclists had the option of using the road if they felt safe doing so, or walking in complete safety on the pavement for this 200 yard stretch.
