Adam Trimingham's article on pensioners will have outraged many readers but, as one who has attained his three score years and ten, I agree with most of his comments. Demands for an across-the-board substantial increase in the state pension are irresponsible.

While extra cash is always welcome, most of us manage reasonably well and would prefer resources to be directed to the most needy - even if means testing is necessary.
