Promoted Brighton got off to a winning start in the Kent and Sussex Regional League with an impressive 3-1 success at Horsham.
The home side had finished second in the league last season, so Brighton were particularly pleased with the victory.
Skipper Carlo Missirian said: "We used Horsham as a benchmark as they came second last year. As we were playing away, we are happy with that win."
Brighton's midfield had twin appeal, with new Australian signing Terry-Alan Toohey lining up alongside twin brother Barry-Jack.
Brighton started superbly, taking the lead when Richard Love fired home from a rebound and then doubling it inside 20 minutes when Terry-Alan Toohey ghosted past a couple of challenges before squaring for young substitute Barney Stubbs to score with his first touch.
Horsham pulled one back early in the second half through Andy Down but a second goal for Love secured victory for Brighton.
New Horsham captain Neil Burlinson said: "When we got to 2-1 we had a couple of chances but when they scored their third goal it was game over."
Crawley also made an impressive start, beating Middleton and Bognor 5-2.
Despite being down to the bare 11 due to injuries, Crawley took the lead through Butcher only for M&B to level through Matt Ansell.
However, further goals from Butcher, Terry Higgs, Adrian Bettesworth and Ian Watkins secured the points, with M&B grabbing a second consolation through Mark Pacey late on Mid Sussex opened with a 1-0 win over BBHC, the only goal coming ten minutes from time when Steve Newton crossed for Mike Jourdain to fire home.
New midfielder Anthony Hathaway, from Newhaven, was man-of-the-match for Mids.
Relegated Worthing made a winning start to their Kent and Sussex division one campaign.
Goals from Mark Duncan and Rex Fuller secured a 2-1 success at home to New Beccehamian, making it a victorious start for new skipper Simon Holloway.
Eastbourne went down 3-1 away to Cliftonville.
There were heavy defeats for promoted Penguins, who crashed 9-1 away to Ashford, and Newhaven, who went down 7-0 at Burnt Ash.
