A walk-to-school group had a few extra members this morning.

The Stanford Crocodile was joined by Brighton Pavilion MP David Lepper, Councillor Juliet McCaffery and Place To Be campaign chairman Simon Fanshawe.

They were all celebrating International Walk To School Day and a children's band provided a carnival atmosphere while they marched.

The Crocodile is a group of parents who walk their children across Old Shoreham Road and Dyke Road to the two Stanford Schools in Brighton.

They are campaigning for safe crossings over the two main roads. Brighton and Hove Council has agreed to provide a pelican crossing in Dyke Road and an island with flashing lights and a patrol in Old Shoreham Road.

Mr Lepper said: "I could see for myself today how difficult it is to cross Old Shoreham Road at the moment.

"I would like to see parents and children of other schools take up this idea where this is practicable."

Lou McCurdy of the Crocodile said: "It was a real celebration."
