Why is there not a decent housing policy in force? I recently heard a story of a taxi driver who sold his home and moved into a one-bedroom council flat. He realised a profit of at least £30,000 from the sale of his house with which he was able to completely refurbish his new home. He predicts he will be able to buy the flat within four years.
How on earth was this man able to place his name on a council housing list when he was the owner of a house in positive equity? In this way he will be able to profit from other people's hardship.
A disabled lady I know is unable to find council accommodation or even be placed on a waiting list, mainly due to her name remaining on a mortgage.
The Government says it is reducing housing costs but is throwing money into the bank accounts of the rich and not looking after the needy.
A proper housing policy is needed now, before the old one ensures there soon won't be any council housing for anyone.
