Brighton Bears are still searching for their first win of the season after London Towers proved too strong for them in pulling off a comfortable 95-73 League win.

Towers' victory at the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre puts them top of the Southern Conference with three straight victories.

It is proving a tough start for the new-look Bears with coach Mark Dunning's young and inexperienced charges having lost their opening three games.

The pressure is on for them to open their account when Bob Donewald brings his London Leopards outfit to Burgess Hill on Saturday, but Bears owner Romek Kriwald is confident of success.

He said: 'This was the best performance of the season so far by the Bears and it gives us real hope that we can beat Leopards on Saturday.

'Towers had to work in all four quarters to make things happen.

"It was generally a better team display by the Bears. Dave Wahl was dominant, Wilbur Johnson showed an offensive threat and Kevin Wallace also played strongly.'

Towers, winners of the Southern Conference and Uni-ball trophy last season, went into the game as favourites but were made to work hard for their win after Bears began encouragingly.

Brighton led 19-11 after the first quarter and were only four points down at 36-32 at the interval.

As the match wore on, Towers' fine shooting from the perimeter became an important factor with Bears failing to make crucial lay-ups.
