People living near a mobile phone mast are celebrating news that it is to be taken down.
More than 600 people objected to the 45ft steel mast being installed at the British Engineerium in Nevill Avenue, Hove.
Residents branded it an eyesore and said they feared its emissions were a health risk, particularly to children at three nearby schools. Telecoms giant One2One has now agreed to take the mast down.
A Brighton and Hove Council spokeswoman confirmed the move and said: "The company has told us it will remove the mast. We are waiting for a written confirmation."
The move was hailed as a victory for common sense by mother-of-three Martine Cowley, who led the campaign.
Mrs Cowley, 46, of nearby Treadcroft Road, said: "We are delighted that they have bowed to public pressure. "Although they say there is no proven link between these masts and health risks, the matter is still uncertain."
One2One paid rent to the Engineerium to set up the mast and an equipment cabin next to its 110ft chimney.
An existing Vodafone mast will remain on the site. It has been concealed with brick cladding to blend in.
Mrs Cowley said: "We understand there is a possibility One2One may put in another application for a less visible mast at the Engineerium.
"If they do, we will look at it carefully before deciding whether to launch another campaign."
