Horsham's Richard Smallridge is celebrating winning his class in the Westfield Speed Championship.
But Richard was pushed all the way in his quest for the title by younger brother Phil, who finished second in the same class.
At the final round of the championship at Three Sisters in Liverpool last weekend, Phil pipped his older brother to victory in a class contested by about 50 drivers.
Richard, 27, did enough to win the crown and also to finish second overall in the championship, two places ahead of Phil.
The Westfield Championship involves sprints and hillclimbs. Some weekends will see both disciplines contested, while others will see just one or the other taking place.
The brothers share a car, a Westfield SEI which was built by Phil, who is four years younger than Richard.
Phil said: "We have put a new engine in this season - a Vauxhall 1600, 16 valve taken out of a Corsa - and that has helped us get a lot better.
"It has given us 30 or 40 more horse power than we have had in the past and that has made the difference.
"It has been a great year. Overall in the championship we came second and fourth out of 150 cars, which is pleasing."
l THE tenth Sussex Run for classic cars will now take place on Sunday October 15, starting from the Fountain Pub at Handcross at 10am and passing through the heart of Mid Sussex before finishing at Drusillas Park, Alfriston, where the cars will be on show until 4pm.
The event was due to take place last month but was postponed due to the fuel crisis.
