Brighton designers have created a landmark website charting the history of black and Asian history in Britain.

Web producers at Get Frank built the site for Channel 4's Black and Asian History Month which started last week.

It lets users find information sources on black history on the net by either typing in keywords or clicking on a map of Britain.

Its creators think it is the first search engine devoted to black history locations on the web.

Get Frank director Andrew Seel said the site would direct people to black and Asian history projects discovered by Channel 4 researchers.

He said: "It's very simple and Flash-driven. There is a moving timeline and sound which will be part of the interface.

"Channel 4 really liked it. They approved it straight away."

Channel 4 invited Get Frank to pitch for the work. They beat off four other design agencies to close the deal.

The site was completed in just three weeks.

Paula Snyder, the Channel 4 editor responsible for the site, said: "By using the internet we have been able to collect together some wonderful individual projects.

"Our biggest hope is that it continues to grow.

"So if you have a black and Asian history project which is already a website, then please get in touch."

It will be maintained by Get Frank over a three-year period.

Mr Seel said it was the firm's experience in handling large amounts of data which won them the contract.

Get Frank created the website for Jerusalem, England's Euro 2000 song, sung by artist Damien Hirst, actor Keith Allen and Blur member Alex James.

The design agency's client list includes the Financial Times website FT.com, AOL and EMI.
