A recent item in the Daily Mirror by broadcaster and ex-government spin doctor Charlie Whelan laments and lambasts the dress code of the East Brighton Golf Club, which refused entry to a senior delegate attending the Labour Party Conference.

Doubtless the wearing of denim jeans was acceptable at the conference - as it was at the Treasury when Charlie was flavour of the month - and would be at municipal golf courses run by Labour councils as suggested in the article.

However, they are not at East Brighton Golf Club. It's all about maintaining standards, Charles - know what I mean, like?
