Council bosses are to meet police to discuss ways of enforcing a bylaw to ban street drinking.
Eastbourne Council representatives will discuss the authority's plans to get tough with drunks.
A detailed action plan will be drawn up after consultation with Sussex Police Authority and the Chief Constable.
The move to outlaw street drinking has received mass support from councillors, who hope to stamp out antisocial behaviour in the town centre.
It follows complaints from traders and members of the public.
The clampdown will initially be set up as a trial in certain areas.
If successful, it will be expanded to include other parts of the town.
An action group has been set up to designate areas which would most benefit from the bylaw.
Similar schemes have proved successful in other Sussex resorts, including Hastings.
