James Kirtley could be playing for England after all this winter.
The Sussex pace bowler was left out of the squad for the A team tour of the West Indies, which starts in March.
But injury doubts over Yorkshire's Ryan Sidebottom and Durham's Steve Harmison have forced the selectors to put Kirtley and Gloucestershire's Jon Lewis on stand-by.
Kirtley was also called up as a replacement for last winter's trip to Bangladesh and New Zealand and finished up taking over 20 wickets.
This season he took 95 wickets in all competitions and was disappointed not to make the original squad.
The tourists will be led by Sussex coach Peter Moores and will take part in the West Indies' domestic competition the Busta Cup.
Moores said: "There are a couple of niggles among the bowlers and while you don't wish injury on anyone it would be fantastic for James if he ended up going.
"He would love to be out there and I know he would do a good job."
Sussex have confirmed they will play four day-night matches at Hove in the National League next season. They face Essex on July 16, Middlesex on August 1, Lancashire on August 30 and Glamorgan on September 4.
