It was pleasing to read Bob Hoad's article regarding the wearing of collars and ties, which to many men seems to be a thing of the past. Having worked outdoors, it was not practical to wear a collar and tie, but once work was finished it was wash, shave and on with it.
As part of a large family during the 1930s, we wore practical, not smart clothes. On a rare visit to a cinema, however, I saw the actor Tyrone Power looking so immaculate it had a lasting effect throughout my life.
My wife often remarks that my smartness was what first attracted her to me. We have been married 50 years and even now I can't sit down to breakfast until I have smartened up. She is still as young and lovely looking as ever and when she looks at me with approval and remarks "You look nice this morning" it is a great feeling of affection. God bless her, and thanks Tyrone Power.
