I note Crawley prospective Conservative parliamentary candidate Henry Smith has accused me of misplaced priorities in relation to a Green Card of useful telephone numbers which I, along with our Labour councillors, have produced and circulated throughout the constituency (Argus, October 18).
I am puzzled why Henry should raise such objections. It seems to me entirely appropriate for councillors to raise their profiles with their constituents as much as possible. They are Labour councillors, so it is hardly surprising this be co-ordinated through the Crawley Labour Party.
It is my understanding Henry is the only member of the Conservative group on West Sussex County Council not to be on any major committee. I understand he is a member of the Crawley Schools Task Force but missed the first meeting of this group.
His constituents are the voters of Furnace Green, Maidenbower and Pound Hill South and, from my own post bag, I know the schools issue is very high on their list of priorities.
To be accused of misplaced priorities by someone who accepts the voters' mandate to represent them at the county and the £5,000 that goes with it, then fails to serve on any committee and misses the first meeting of the group of most concern to his own constituents, simply beggars belief.
