No words can express how I felt on reading fish merchant Jim Partridge's explanation for seeking compensation over the unveiling of the memorial to the late PC Jeff Tooley. Do we have to put a cash price on everything we do in life?
Checking car speeds, which is what PC Tooley was doing when he was killed, is an important tool in combating crime. Many burglars and wanted criminals have been detained at speed checks and the statistics are there to prove it.
Speeding kills and eventually we will see the day when public opinion will regard speeding as as morally wrong as drink driving. Jeff Tooley will be remembered for the sacrifice he made in helping to bring this about.
I hope Mr Partridge will reconsider his attitude to crime prevention and priorities in life.
