Stephen Morley has Olympic designs for Albion at Falmer.
Morley is the man masterminding the look of the Seagulls' proposed stadium.
He is incorporating a key feature of the spectacular home of the Sydney Olympics to provide Albion with a gold medal winner.
Morley is design principle of Modus Consulting Engineers, with offices in London and Manchester.
They are the company responsible for the design of Stadium Australia.
Albion's Falmer roof is based along similar lines. Morley explained: "They both use two thousand-year-old technology, which is the arch.
"Stadium Australia has two which span 300 metres. The Falmer Stadium also uses arches in a very subtle way.
"The main roof structure is supported by a discreet arch on each side."
Considerable thought has gone into the roof design at Falmer to make it environmentally friendly.
"The roof is the most noticed part of any stadium," Morley said. "In this case it is sculptured. It is on an area of land where the ground rises up into a small ridge and the roof mirrors that."
Morley is no stranger to state of the art stadium design. His company were responsible for a 1.7 hectare moving roof at the Colonial Stadium in Melbourne and a 1.2 kilometre long roof at the Formula One Grand Prix circuit just opened in Kuala Lumpar. He also led the engineering design of Huddersfield FC's revolutionary McAlpine Stadium.
"That was a turning point," Morley said. "Up to then football stadia tended to be very square and functional, rather than pleasant to look at. The McAlpine Stadium made the whole industry think more about architecture."
Huddersfield's home won the prestigious AJ/Sunday Times Building of the Year award.
Now Morley hopes Albion's Falmer Stadium will please not only the club but also those opposed to it.
"It is a very beautiful site and the aim is to enhance that, not detract from it," he added.
"We want it to be something everyone can be proud of, including passers-by and people living in the area. If we achieve that it would mean far more than any architectural awards or recognition from our peers."
Martin Perry, Albion's chief executive, said: "I first met Stephen through my connections with the Huddersfield Stadium. When we were putting together the team for Brighton he was the choice because of his design flair and skills."
