Farmers whose cattle died during the Sussex flooding will not be prosecuted for animal cruelty, the RSPCA has announced.
The Argus reported on October 16 how the Horsham-based charity was considering action against several Lewes farmers after animals drowned during the disaster.
RSPCA inspectors rescued more than 100 cattle from fields off Landport Road using lassos to pull them to safety.
The prosecutions were considered amid allegations that farmers had left the animals on low ground despite flood warnings.
The charity has now decided not to press ahead with the action.
A spokeswoman said: "We will not be prosecuting the farmers and we hope that should we be unfortunate enough to suffer future flooding, they will remember what happened this time and move their livestock immediately they receive the flood warnings."
