Brighton made it five wins out of five in the Kent and Sussex Regional League after edging out Folkestone 2-1.
Richard Love and Paul Daniels scored either side of half time for Brighton, who dominated until the final 15 minutes when the visitors pulled a goal back and pushed for an equaliser.
Skipper Carlo Missirian said: "It was a great defensive display and I would put that victory down to our defence rather than the attack."
The only black note for Brighton was a broken thumb sustained by Terry-Alan Toohey.
This Saturday Brighton visit Crawley, who remain third in the table after a 2-1 win away to Blackheath.
Although Crawley were delighted to take the points, they know they were fortunate. Other than the first ten minutes, Blackheath ran the game and pelted the Crawley defence with attack after attack.
However, Crawley had established a 2-0 lead inside five minutes and it gave them something to hold on to.
Terry Higgs scored the first, finishing superbly from the top of the D after being picked out by Phil Butcher, and Matt Jones made it 2-0 following a well-worked short corner.
Blackheath pulled one back but, despite something like 20 short corners, they were unable to salvage anything from the game.
Horsham registered their second win of the season, defeating BBHC 2-0 with open play goals from Dom Cohen and Keith Anderson.
Having conceded six goals the previous week, Horsham were delighted to keep a cleansheet.
Mid Sussex ran out 4-1 winners over Middleton and Bognor, whose consolation came from Mike McClure.
