The arguments of the opponents of a community stadium at Falmer appear to be twofold. The first is the proposed site, Village Way North, is downland and building on it would set a precedent unacceptable in environmental terms. The other argument is that Waterhall would be a far more suitable site.
The idea development on downland would set a precedent seems to be more acceptable to Falmer residents in the case of Waterhall (north of the bypass and several miles away from where they live). Readers should draw their own conclusions on whether the campaign against Brighton and Hove Albion's plans is underpinned by principle or simply selfish
prejudice.
