The Sussex road season ends on a high note on Saturday with the Sussex CA open hill climb on Chantry Lane, Storrington.
The event incorporates the county hill climb championship.
The Sussex entry is one of the best ever. Saltdean's John Limpus (GS Stella), the reigning county champion and 1998 winner Roger Smith (VC Etoile) from Worthing have both entered.
Other leading contenders include Steve Dennis and Andy Seltzer (East Grinstead), Richard Sutton (VC Etoile) and Tristan Court (Brighton Mitre).
Also entered is Nick Boore, of Sussex Nomads, who finished 60th out of 120 riders in the National Hill Climb Championship held at the weekend. Stuart Jardine (Kingston), last year's overall winner, heads the visitors.
In previous years the Sussex championship has been held on nearby Kithurst Hill. Promoter Mark Jones, who lives locally, says he chose Chantry Lane for this year's event because it has a better road surface although it has now been affected by the recent torrential rains.
The start is at 2pm and spectators are asked to arrive early and use the car park at the top of Chantry Lane.
Cyclo-cross racing returns to Brighton's Stanmer Park on Sunday. The Brighton Mitre's open meeting is a counting event in the London League and a top-class field is expected.
Entries will be taken on the day and there are events for all categories of riders from 10.45am. The hour-long main event starts at 1.15pm. The race will give local riders a chance to size each other up before the Sussex Championship, which takes place in Brighton's Wild Park on December 10.
Promoter David Clark said: "The Mitre's plans this year to develop racing in the area around the BMX track at Sheepcote Valley were dashed when some travellers set up camp there. But I am pleased to bring racing back to Stanmer Park again."
