The government is going to tax cars on CO2 emissions, which it says cause global warming. This is a reversal of the truth, which is that earth temperature has a major bearing on CO2 production. A combination of animals and vegetation are responsible for 96.5 per cent of the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere with only five per cent due to man's activity.

Of this, only 0.6 per cent is due to motor vehicles. It is the sun's activity which has caused the change in our climate, not man's activity.

Global warming is being used as an excuse by governments of richer countries to raise indirect taxation and limit competition from developing countries.

This country pays more fuel tax than anywhere else in Europe. This makes us non-competitive with everything involving road transport in its manufacture or distribution.

A holiday abroad is often cheaper than a motoring holiday in this country, thus hurting our tourist trade. If all road and fuel taxes had been spent on the roads we would now have the best road system in the world.
