I would like to thank all the wonderful people who worked so hard to help those who suffered during the Lewes floods.
Both paid employees (Lewes District Council, Sussex Police and East Sussex Fire Brigade) and volunteers (Red Cross, WRVS and RNLI) were present, prepared, efficient, sympathetic and totally invaluable.
There are also all those who gave their time and effort unstintingly to help those of us affected, from the physical work of emptying our houses or by offering us somewhere to stay, storage facilities, use of their washing machine or even a trip on an inflatable to try to rescue the cats!
I must particularly mention Maureen Messer, Christine Tester and PC Andy Holter, but hundreds of other people also worked themselves to the bone on our behalf.
To thank all these people, we propose holding an anniversary party at Malling Community Centre on Friday, October 12. Any Lewes flood victim or anyone who has provided help to flood victims will be warmly welcomed.
