Angry residents claim they have been kept in the dark about new Parking plans for Hove.

They have accused council bosses of using "underhand tactics" in discussing the plans behind closed doors.

Now they have organised a public meeting to give their views on the new parking zones for the Goldsmid area of Hove.

Dr Bob Potter, co-ordinator of the Goldsmid Community Group, said people living in the Addison Road area have not been fully consulted.

He said: "We accidentally discovered that the council has been holding meetings with selected individuals from our area as part of drawing up the parking scheme.

"These meetings have been closed to the public, but the council intends to present the draft proposals from them to the public for phoney consultation.

"Then, after considering the feedback they receive, they will go ahead and introduce the scheme.

"Having talked with scores of local people the most frequent reaction has been resentment that this process has been going on for more than six months without the knowledge of local residents."

Brighton and Hove Council wants to introduce residents parking permits in a bid to ease parking problems in the area.

As part of its consultation a Goldsmid Parking Forum was set up which included representatives of local residents, businesses and Sussex County Cricket Club.

Ten residents were among those who attended the last meeting on September 17, with the council's consultants JMP Consulting Ltd, and project officers.

The meeting takes place at Davigdor School, Somerhill Road, on Tuesday (7th) at 7.45pm.
