The latest proposal to replace the Aquarena swimming pool in Worthing includes some good ideas - including building a satellite pool at the sports centre site at Durrington and continuing to use the existing site of the current Aquarena - but why does it suggest only a 25-metre, six-lane pool?
Why doesn't West Sussex County Council push for a 50-metre pool? This would show support for our future Olympic sportsmen and women, who have ample 25-metre pools around the county but currently have to travel to London or Bath to train in a 50-metre pool.
A 50-metre pool would bring swimmers from all around the county and further afield and give us the opportunity to host proper swimming competitions, bringing revenue to the area and speeding up the return of private and public investment.
It could also be divided in to two 25-metre pools, which would satisfy most leisure users.
As the current pool is already 33-metres long, could it be extended by another 17-metres?
