Teenager Dominic Hall saved Horsham from a shock defeat at struggling Norwich in the British League premier division.
The 16-year-old forced a 7-7 draw with victory over Leeroy Pye, the Norwich No.1 who plays in the French national league.
Hall was required to step in because Horsham were without two key players.
Adrian Moore is out with a stress fracture to his left foot and Nigel Eckersley was unable to play due to work commitments.
Hall beat Pye 21-17, 21-23, 21-17. Earlier Pye defeated Ritchie Venner and Laurence Trumpauskas, which shows how well the youngster did Venner, Trumpauskas and Hall each won two games and one doubles.
Horsham were forced to field Graham Carter, one of their division two players, at No 4 and he failed to score.
Horsham secretary Derek Bunday said: "Our chances of finishing second could be slipping away.
"With Eckersley away on business and Moore injured we were always up against it at Norwich."
