Is it possible to have platonic friends of the opposite sex once you are in a committed relationship?
The answer is not a straight forward one. Many people who have partners also manage to continue their friendships with members of the opposite sex. On the other hand, I hear from numerous people that it is just not possible for them to sustain these kind of friendships.
Carol and Mike had been together for almost a year when an ex-boyfriend rang to invite Carol out for a drink for "old times sake", to catch up on all the news.Carol asked Mike if he minded, and not wanting to sound as if he mistrusted her he said "okay, go ahead".
After several drinks the 'ex' made it quite clear that he wanted them to get back together again. Carol decided to cut the evening short and return home to Mike.
Friends of the opposite sex can enrich your life but it may be that in order to continue these friendships, it would be more appropriate to include your spouse in any plans and your partner's feelings should matter.
