Boss Dean White praised his young reserve side after a 1-0 defeat at Cambridge United yesterday in the Combination League.
Albion were beaten by a 78th minute bicycle kick by Swedish striker Jonas Axeldal.
But White said: "We played very well. We had a young and inexperienced team out and they were the opposite.
"They had a few names, but we had 70 per cent of the play and the lads worked their socks off."
Front pair Scott Ramsay and Daniel Marney went closest to scoring for the Seagulls.
Albion Reserves: Cartwright; Melton, Virgo, Beech, Jackson, Thomas, Johnson, Wilkinson, McCurdy, Ramsay, Marney. Subs: McPhee (for McCurdy), Hammond (for Wilkinson), A. Davis.
CURBISHLEY TO RETURN: Former Seagull Alan Curbishley is scheduled to bring Charlton to Withdean on May 9 in a benefit match for physio Malcolm Stuart and retired kit man Jock Riddell.
The fixture is subject to confirmation, as Albion could be involved in the play-offs or Charlton in the FA Cup final.
NO CHANGE: Albion will not be changing their name now that Brighton and Hove has been granted city status.
Chief executive Martin Perry quipped: "I heard that BHAFC stands for Brighton and Hove Albion Football City, so we don't need to!
"Our centenary shirt features the twin crests and all of us and our supporters would very much like to keep the name Brighton and Hove Albion."
OPENING UP: The club's ticket office in Queens Road, Brighton, is open tomorrow and from Wednesday to Friday next week between 10am and 4pm to cope with applications for Albion's hectic festive programme.
