Congratulations to Brighton and Hove on gaining city status.

Maybe now is the time for Brighton and Hove to accept that if waste incineration is to be an option under the Joint East Sussex and Brighton and Hove Waste Management Plan then it takes responsibility for finding a site within its boundary to burn waste created in the local area.

As a resident of Newhaven, which has regeneration status and the potential for economic growth, I do not wish to see my area become a potential health hazard.

The unique climatic condition of the lower Ouse valley suggests siting such a plant in Newhaven would create a potential health hazard for my children and grand children.

Brighton and Hove has a major responsibility to address this issue. City status creates the potential for wealth and I would suggest responsibility for its own environmental recycling.

May Newhaven residents now think of our neighbour's city-status residents as environmentally friendly partners who accept their responsibility?
