The Paupersis year ended on a high note with 13 members getting 269 fish (whiting, pout, ling, flounders) from Hove beach and a total weight of 83lb 12 1/2oz.
During the six hour match, Ian Rose landed 26 fish for 8lb 8oz, Adam Ticehurst had 19 for 8lb 7 1/4oz, Clive Down 25 for 8lb 3 3/4oz, Vic Davis 23 for 7lb 15 3/4oz and Roger Stanton 28 for 7lb 11.5oz.
In the final of the knockout cup, Mark Dudeney with 4lb 14oz beat Steve Tester, who had 4lb 7oz. Stanton emerges the club champion with Ralph Rice runner-up.
Six boats took 12 members of Southwick out in calm conditions at 7am. They returned at 3.30pm with Richard Hocking boasting the best fish, a cod of 22lb 12oz, which was 103 per cent of specimen size.
Bob Jenkins had a pollack of 11lb and Chris Burgess a cod of 18lb 8oz (both 83 per cent) and fourth was Bob Jenkins with a cod of 8lb 4oz. Smaller cod, lesser spotted dogfish, small conger, pout and whiting were taken. The next competition will be on January 7, again with a 7am start.
Switched from the Arun, Billingshurst had their sixth and final round of the Kerry Packer Series at the day ticket Firs Fishery near Bucks Green and the ten members found it grim.
Dennis Light won with 2lb 13oz which was a carp of 2lb 80z and a roach taken on maggot. Mitch Hudson had 2lb 12oz of skimmers and Derek White 2lb 5oz of roach.
With five out of six rounds to count, Bert Perry emerged the overall winner with 117 points. Light had 114 and junior member Rob Wilkinson 100.
At Normans Bay, the Haywards Heath beach club wound up their fixtures for the year with 11 members getting 206 fish (mainly whiting) for 33.19k. Dave Swain had 33 for 5.4k including the best fish of the match, a pout of 450g. John Bamblett had 33 fish for 5.02k and Neville Breading 28 for 4.17k.
Breading has won the club championship yet again with 77 points. Swain was second on 53 and Brian Woodgate third with 47. On January 14, the rods will be out again, this time at White Horses.
Seventeen fish (mainly whiting) made Ralph Crosby winner of the Hastings and St Leonards club beach match over five hours. His total was 6lb 8oz and then came Steve Martin who had a 2lb 14oz bass in his 5lb 10oz and Tim Relf was on 5lb 3oz.
Bognor Surfcasters had a night match at Selsey over five hours which Barry Steel won with 4lb 5oz which was mainly a codling of 4lb 2oz which took crab.
Steve Middleton had 1lb 6oz and Trevor Field 13oz. The club's next match will be on January 14 at East Preston (11am).
During the last 90 minutes of darkness for the four hour Worthing match on the pier fish started to feed. Alan Irbens got 14 fish for 4lb 13oz and that included a whiting of 10oz and a flounder of nine ounces.
